I upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.7 and now the ROES software won't launch.  What do I do?
On June 16, 2009 Apple deployed an update to OS X 10.5.7 for Java via Software Updates. As a result, when you launch the Aspen Creek Photo ROES software from your dock or the Applications folder the icon will bounce in the dock, but the software won't launch.

To resolve these startup errors follow these instructions:
    1.  Using the Finder go into System>Library>CoreServices on your local hard drive.
    2.  Locate Java Web Start.app and copy it to the clipboard, then paste it into Applications>Utilities.
    3.  Go to the order page on the Aspen Creek Photo website and download the software again.
    4.  During the startup process, 2 warning windows will display: one to trust the application and another to allow it unrestricted access         to the system. Click OK to both of these and ROES should open as normal.

To create a new shortcut, open Java Preferences.app from Applications>Utilties folder.  Click the Network tab, then click "View Cache" at the lower right to bring up the Java Cache Viewer. Use the menu or icon to create a desktop application or shortcut as desired.

Why don't I see all of the files in my folder?
Aspen Creek Photo ROES software works only with JPG files. If you have opened a folder that contains other file formats, only the JPG files will be viewed.

Won't using JPG files reduce the quality of my prints?
Our testing has revealed that there is no difference in resolution on a pixel level between TIFF, PSD, and 12 quality JPG files.

I've put border on my image, but I can't see the border, just a blue line. What now?
You need to click out of the active image area in order to see your border change. Click on the gray area above your image to reveal your border.

I tried to load an image, but it loaded all the images in my folder! What happened?
Aspen Creek Photo ROES can't select just one image. Instead, it selects a folder, and opens all the JPG files in that folder. If you store all of your images in one place, and have hundreds of files there as a result, it will take awhile to load all of those images. You can avoid this lag by creating a new folder before you order, and placing all of the images for the order in that folder.

I selected a $6 shipping option, but I was charged $8 for shipping. Why?
The shipping option that costs $6 is only for orders that don't include any prints over 11x14. If you choose this shipping option, but order larger prints, we change your shipping option during order processing.

Can I mail my order to Aspen Creek Photo?
Yes. To mail your order, choose the "save to disk for alternate delivery" option when you click the "check out" button. You can then burn the file that is created to a CD or DVD and mail it to us at:

What are the system requirements for Aspen Creek Photo ROES?

• 500 MHz processor
• 256MB RAM
Java Runtime (for Windows) or Apple Java (for Mac).

Can I use my tiff, psd and RAW files with Aspen Creek Photo ROES?
You must use JPG files with Aspen Creek Photo ROES. If you have files in another format, you'll need to save them as JPGs before you can open them in Aspen Creek Photo ROES.

Can I submit LAB files to Aspen Creek Photo ROES?
LAB files cannot be saved in a standard JPG format and, therefore, can not be submitted to Aspen Creek Photo ROES.

Some of my images look dark and red in Aspen Creek Photo ROES, and some don't show up at all. What causes this?
Different cameras might embed a non-RGB color space (like CMYK) or add EXIF header data. In these cases, while the thumbnails appear fine, Java is unable to render the full image, which makes it look dark, red, or the image doesn't show up at all. This issue is specific to Java 1.5, so earlier versions of Java won't have this problem.

Opening your image in photo editing software and converting it to sRGB or another standard RGB space, and/or removing the EXIF header data will allow the image to load properly.

Part of my image is being cut off. How do I avoid this?
The Aspen Creek Photo ROES software defaults to crop your image if it does not fit the print size you have chosen. If you do not want your image cropped, check the "Don't Crop Image" checkbox beneath the zoom slider.

How can I edit one of my images from Aspen Creek Photo ROES?
In Aspen Creek Photo ROES, go to Preferences and click the "…" button in the "Image Application" area. Browse to your application, select it, and click "Open". Right-clicking (control+click for Macs) on your image thumbnails in the right side of the screen will open a fly-out menu. Select "Open with Image Application" to edit the image.

Aspen Creek Photo ROES won't launch or won't let me send my order. What do I do?
If you're experiencing trouble, try these steps one at a time in sequence until you find one that solves your problem:

1. Change the settings of your Windows Firewall.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 can prevent ROES from launching, or prevent you from making the connection you need to send your order. Try turning the firewall off, or set it to prompt for exceptions such as FTP.

2. Check your Anti-Virus applications.
Some versions of Norton Internet Security/Antivirus and McAfee Security applications can prevent ROES from starting. Try disabling these temporarily if ROES will not start and turn them back on after successfully starting and installing shortcuts. To do this, go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Find your antivirus security service (proxy agent, firewall, network monitor, etc.), right-click on them and select "Stop".

3. Change Internet Explorer security settings.
If your IE security settings are set to high IE may keep ROES from launching. In IE, go to Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, and set the security settings to default.

4. If you have Windows XP SP2, try turning off your pop-up blocker.
You can do this in IE under Tools>Pop-up Blocker.

5. Clear out your Internet Explorer cache.
In IE, go to Tools>Internet Options. On the "General" tab, go to Temporary Internet Files and select "Delete Files". Click okay at the confirmation window, wait for the mouse pointer to return to normal and try to launch Aspen Creek Photo ROES again.

6. Reinstall Aspen Creek Photo ROES from scratch.
After clearing out your Internet Explorer cache, remove Aspen Creek Photo ROES and reinstall it.

For Windows:

a. Select Start>Run, type in "javaws.exe" and press Enter. When the Java Web Application viewer opens, select Aspen Creek Photo ROES.

b. In Java 1.4, select Application and Remove. In Java 1.5, click "Remove Selected Application" at the bottom of the window. This will uninstall Aspen Creek Photo ROES and remove any shortcuts.

c. Download Aspen Creek Photo ROES and reinstall.

For Mac OS 10.4 and earlier:

a. Go to Applications>Utilities>Java and double click on Java Web Start.

b. Select Aspen Creek Photo ROES from the list and click "Remove Selected Application" at the bottom of the window. This will uninstall Aspen Creek Photo ROES and remove any shortcuts.

c. Download Aspen Creek Photo ROES and reinstall.

For Mac OS 10.5 and later:

a. Go to Applications>Utilities and double click on Java Preferences

b.  On the "Networks" tab, click the "View Cache Files…" button in the lower right hand corner.

c. Select Aspen Creek Photo ROES from the list and click the red "x" button at the top of the window. This will uninstall Aspen Creek Photo ROES and remove any shortcuts.

c. Download Aspen Creek Photo ROES and reinstall.

Aspen Creek Photo ROES gives an "Invalid Argument" error when I start, but I've used it before. How do I get past this?
Clean out your Internet Explorer cache.

1. In IE, go to Tools>Internet Options.

2. On the "General" tab, go to Temporary Internet Files and select "Delete Files".

3. Relaunch Aspen Creek Photo ROES.

Aspen Creek Photo ROES starts to launch, but then vanishes, leaving an "HS_PID_ERROR.txt" file on my desktop. I've used it before, how do I fix this?

1. Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Windows PCs can add several versions of Java when it updates, instead of upgrading the existing version. This can cause Java corruption.

2. Find the Java Runtime versions, highlight each and remove them.

3. Reboot your computer, then download the latest version of Java and install it. Aspen Creek Photo ROES should then run properly.

How can I make an Aspen Creek Photo ROES shortcut if I skipped that step when I installed it?

For Windows:

a. Select Start>Run, type in "javaws.exe" and press Enter.

b. When the Java Web Application viewer opens, right-click on Aspen Creek Photo ROES and select "Install Shortcuts". If you are using an earlier version of Java, select Aspen Creek Photo ROES and go to Application>Create Shortcuts in the menu bar.

For Mac OS 10.4 and earlier:

a. Go to Applications>Utilities>Java and double click on Java Web Start.

b. Select Aspen Creek Photo ROES and go to Applications>Create Desktop Application.

c. Browse to the location that you want your application saved and click "Okay".

For Mac  OS 10.5 and later:

a. Go to Applications>Utilities and double click on Java Preferences.

b.  On the "Networks" tab, click the "View Cache Files…" button in the lower right hand corner.

c. Select Aspen Creek Photo ROES and click the right facing arrow button at the top of the window.

c. Browse to the location that you want your application saved and click "Okay".

I tried to send an order, but got an error saying that the path specified for the order can't be found. What do I do?
First, check your account field in "My Information" and make sure it says either "NEWUSER" or your Aspen Creek Photo account number. Make sure there are no backslashes or other characters in that field. If that doesn't work, try the following:

1. Upon checkout, choose "Save for sending later via the Internet"

2. Your saved order will appear in the upper section of the "Queue" window. Click "Remove" on the right side of your order. This will move this order to the lower area of this window.

3. Click on your order, and then click "Open as New". This will assign a new order number to your order.

4. Try sending this "new" order.

The "Add to Cart" button is grayed out and I can't order my print.
We've recently added some very exciting templates. Our templates are great for injecting a little creativity in to your prints by putting more than one image on a print, using square sizes and more! We're so excited about them that they're the first thing you'll see when you launch Aspen Creek Photo ROES.

Our templates have several different areas for images—sometimes four, sometimes nine, etc.. Each image area has to be filled in order to add that print to your cart. To be able to add the print to you have two choices. The first is to add an image to each image area—you'll see a number for each one. The other is to hold down the option key (alt key in Windows). This will change the "Add to Cart" button to "Add with Empty".

If you don't want a print with multiple images on it, click the "Standard Sizes" tab or "Square Sizes" tab in the upper left hand corner of the Aspen Creek Photo ROES software.

I want to make an 8x10 matte print of 10 different images. Do I have to add each one individually?
No, you can do them all at once! First, select your print size from the "Select a Product" area on the left hand side. Then, select the images you would like to print from the "Choose Your Images" area (hold the shift key to select several images), and dragging them into the "Crop Your Images" area. The Aspen Creek Photo ROES software will ask you if you would like to add all of the images in that size. Click "Yes", and check your cart. You'll see all of the images there!

The text on my holiday card in Aspen Creek Photo ROES doesn't look like the sample image online.
Our products use fonts that may not be installed on your computer. If the fonts are not on your computer the products will still print correctly, but you will not see the the correct font in ROES.
